The Dancers
The Kenbi Dance Group is unique with the body painting, the rhythm and the clothing that they wear. They wear both yellow nagas as well as red. The Body Painting is not all uniform.
The designs are each dancers individual artwork, some of which has been handed down from their fathers as well as their own artwork.
The Performances
Some of the dances that are performed are: Welcome, Crab, Buffalo, Happy, Solo or Two Two Style and Farewell. Each dancer has their own style which has been handed down generation after generation.
A Reconciliation Dance has been introduced. This dance will give you the opportunity to participate in a traditional corroboree dance bringing us all together. Nothing like dancing lessons on the spot!
The dances and music depicts the animals, the hunting and the family. This together with the chanting, the clap sticks, the hum of the digj and the noise of feet thumping the sands will send shivers down your spine and you may be receptive enough to sense our spiritual link to the area.
Group Encouragement
The group have been encouraging the younger males to participate and to carry on the traditions as well as allowing females to dance with them.
